When I was very young, I feared death. I did not know where I would be going after death or whether there would be a pain. I felt insecure. I began getting involved in the ouija board during my secondary school. I smoked and went to discos trying to fill my emptiness. I fell in love with a bargirl and soon experienced a separation.
I was not interested in studies. I enjoyed daydreaming and had poor results. Later I went to study in England. I had been studying at Christian colleges both in Hong Kong and England. But there seemed, no one had shared their testimony with me. I did not get anything from Christianity. I believed ghosts existed. So I believed there must be gods.
During my first year at the university in England, I lost my steady girlfriend for the second time. I began having insomnia. My classmate lent me a book called "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale. I copied down important sentences from the book and began to pray. After a few months of seeking God whole-heartedly, on the morning of 18 June 1974, I was in my room reading the book. There seemed electricity coming on me. I began to cry and confessed my sins. I then fell on the floor and rolled along the edge of the bed. I felt an unseen hand grasping my throat. I could not breathe and screamed. Then immediately, I felt the evil spirit left me. I stopped crying and felt at peace.
When I got into bed at night, I felt there was a power moving throughout my whole body. It was like a supernatural massage machine. There were warmth and love was shed abroad my heart. Peace like a river was flowing into my mind. I fell asleep like a baby very soon.
Six months later, I experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit at a church. Waves of love and joy were flowing into me. I had the foretaste of heaven. It was a beautiful experience.
After the baptism of God's Spirit, my smoking habit just disappeared naturally. I tried three times to stop smoking but failed.
In 1976, a pastor called Dave Walter came to preach at the university. In the end, he had a revelation (words of knowledge) from God and said," There are 5 people here who have a skin disease." I was one of them. At that time, when I applied the cream on my neck, it would be under control. Yet it would come back. But after his prayer, the skin disease never occurred anymore.
Once I was staying with a family while I was looking for a room. I had loads of work and I could not afford to spend a few nights looking for a room. So I asked Jesus to provide a room with eleven conditions:
I made a simple advertisement in a local newspaper asking for a room near the university. Very soon, one lady rang me up. When I visited her house and discovered that all conditions were met.
Before I graduated, I asked God to help me find a job with 5 conditions:
I could not get a job in England for one year so I returned to Hong Kong, I found a sales engineer job, which met all my conditions. In fact, God was paving the way when I had my industrial training in England. I failed my examinations in my second year. Yet the Chief Engineer still employed me for my industrial training. This is a miracle. After six months of work, I resigned to prepare for the re-take of the examination. The Chief Engineer wrote me a good testimonial letter. I only got a passed degree without any honour. How could I compete with other applicants for the five conditions job? I knew it was the testimonial letter that helped me. In fact, I did pray to God whether it was His will for me to do the industrial training. If I did the training, I would graduate one year later. Otherwise, I would graduate one year earlier. That evening when a pastor preached at our fellowship, he had supernatural knowledge that there were two brothers has big decision to make. There was exactly two went forward for prayer and I was one of them. God helped me to make the best decision was that I underwent the industrial training and got a good testimonial letter to be able to find the dreamed job. God is amazing!
Serious sore throat got healed
In 1981-1982, a pastor from abroad preached at my church in Hong Kong. He prayed for those who wanted to be prayed for and I was in the queue. When he prayed for me, he knew that I had a sore throat. Later I asked him how did he know I had a sore throat. He told me that God let him feel the problem when he prayed for me. In fact, whenever I had a flue, I would have 1-2 weeks of serious sore throat problem. But after the pastor's prayer, I only have a short period of minor throat discomfort whenever I have a cold.
One day, my wife took our few months old son to have a check-up to the doctor. We were living in an old type of block so there was no lift. When my wife stepped on the first step of the stairs, she lost her balance. She immediately made a lightning prayer, saying, "Jesus save me." She suddenly felt two hands were under her armpits and helped her skiing along the edges of the staircase down 9 steps and rested at the turning point. The baby smiled at his mother and thought his mother was playing with him. He did not realize God delivered them from such danger.
Our elder son had allergic nose and throat problems. He had a running nose. When he had cold or sweet things, he would cough. The paediatrician advised that he should abstain from things that caused him problems because medicines could only help to a certain extent. We prayed for almost a year. In the beginning, there seemed to have no effect. One particular night during a weekly long night prayer with some Christians, we also prayed for our son's allergic problem. After that night, our son was totally healed. He was five then. When I asked him who healed him while he was having cold drinks or sweets, he would say, "Jesus".
I notice from the bible that about 700 years before Jesus Christ came to earth, in other words, 2700 years ago. The prophet Isaiah wrote in the bible, 53:5, " But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds, we are healed."
In 1989, I had a financial need. I was also interested to work in a particular department of the government. I prayed to Jesus to help me to get a position in that particular department. God gave me wisdom and I sent some newspaper cuttings related to the job together with the application form. I had a successful interview and I got the job. I used the provident fund to buy a property. That was at the end of 1990 during the Iraq war. The property prices were rather low. However, I chose housing financial scheme (HFS) instead of the private tenancy agreement (PTA) in order to get 50% cash in pocket. I did not discuss this with my wife, nor did I seek the advice of my colleagues. I missed the best decision. I regretted it because the HFS only lasted for 10 years whereas PTA can last till I retire. After much prayer, God helped me to forgive myself. The Bible in Proverbs 21:5 says, " The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. A few years after I left my previous company, my former two superiors were forced to retire because of business re-engineering process. If I had not changed my job, I would have faced the same fate. About a year before I left the company, I was assigned a planning post. There was hardly any work. I was in a position that would naturally be made redundant in the business re-engineering. Part of the Lord's Prayer is " deliver us from evil."
The bible Joshua 1:7-8 says, " Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law……….do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful "
After I accepted Jesus as my Savoir, I had improved my ability to concentrate and develop an interest in learning. Eventually, I obtained my professional qualification in engineering.
In 1999, a person who had recently accepted Jesus joined my cell group. He requested the group to pray for his allergic nose congestion problem. I also fasted and prayed for him during lunchtime asking God to heal him. After about 7-8 days of fasting and praying. His serious nose congestion problem disappeared, and the long-gone sense of smell was restored. All glory and praise be to God.
Our younger son, Caleb had allergic nose congestion problem and he could not get sleep. He had to use a nose spray. Caleb was referred to a ENT (ear-nose-throat) doctor for treatment. The specialist said that the allergic problem could not be healed. For a whole year, we prayed for Caleb during the daily family quiet time. But there seemed to be no result. I remembered a Korean Pastor: David Yonggi Cho's testimony. He prayed for his son's incurable skin disease each time before he went to work. But no healing occurred. So he asked God why. God told him that He would not work unless David prayed. So he prayed one day until he had the assurance of faith. That took him six solid hours. He then turned prayer into thanksgiving. His son was supernaturally healed. I was enlightened by David's testimony. So I decided to pray at least half-day during my 2 weeks prayer vocation. Caleb's nose congestion problem went away. Even the tablets and nose spray obtained in the second consultation has never been used. He was totally recovered. May praise and glory be to God, who loves us.
In 2019, our elder son successfully changed career and his salary is almost double. This has blessed our whole family financial situation. Glory to God.
Jesus, who is full of mercy, and has the pleasure to answer our prayer. May I now introduce Him to you.
When I confessed and repented of my sins, I had a new beginning. As the bible says, " The old has passed away, for the new has come." What is a sin? A lie, or to indulge in some dirty thoughts or do not act according to the bible teaching are sins. The bible says, " For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil." The bible also says, " All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." In other words, sin is like when we shoot the arrow and miss the centre of the target. Well, has God abandoned mankind and left us to destruction? Of course not. The bible says, " But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
There is more than one report that a parent pushed away his/her child to avoid being hit by a car, but the car ran down the parent. This is love, based on the parent/child relationship. However, Jesus Christ died for you and me and everyone willingly on the cross. He shed His blood in order to cleanse our sins. Besides, he rose from the dead three days later.
The bible says, " That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." " For He says, "In the time of My favour I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. I tell you, now is the time of God's favour, now is the day of salvation." The bible also says, " Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name (Jesus Christ), He gave the power to become children of God."
Friends, when you become God's child and obey what the Bible teaches, blessings will be upon you and your family. Why don't you accept Jesus as your Saviour? If you are interested to accept Him as your personal Saviour, you need to do three steps:
If you are willing to do that, please open your mouth and pray after these words. " Jesus, forgive all my sins. Thank you for dying for me on the cross, and shedding your blood to cleanse my sins. I believe You died and rose from the dead. Please come into my heart, be my Saviour and Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen."
If you meant what you just prayed, you are a child of God. Congratulations. You will need to study the Bible and pray every day. God speaks to us through the Bible. There are 7000 promises in the Bible. It is good to study them well. You will need to pray and give thanks to God. You also need to join a local church and cell group if there is one.
